"We encounter waves in every minute of every day. There are light waves
which make things visible and sound waves so we can hear. Even solid
physical matter is a wave that is vibrating at a certain frequency. If
we observe the behavior of waves, we can see how energy changes from one
state to another and back again."
In 1975 a young Hugh Holland drove up to Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Los Angeles and became captivated by skateboarders carving up the drainage ditches on the side of a canyon. He immediately knew he had stumbled upon something great.
The next three years that followed, Holland documented skateboarders surfing the streets of LA, San Fernando Valley, Venice Beach, San Francisco and Baja California, Mexico. Hugh perfectly encapsulated the skate scene of 1970's Cali in his photographs.
